Students in a forest

Through fun field trips and classroom visits, the Port Blakely Environmental Education Program has hosted more than 100,000 visitors and helped them learn about forests and environmental stewardship. As part of this effort, the Port Blakely Forest just outside Molalla has hosted Molalla River School District student groups for the past five years. Students get to hike through the forest, stopping along the way to learn about Oregon forests, the importance of trees to our environment and economy, and the wildlife that calls it home.

This year, fifth grade classes from Molalla Elementary School taught by Mr. Hewitt, Ms. Radke and Mrs. Wolf had the opportunity to tour the forest. These field trips took place on May 27, 28 and 29 and were hosted by Port Blakely Environmental Educator Bonny Glendenning. Bonny led walks in the woods for all through classes, stopping along the way for lessons in forest ecology and stewardship.

These trips are not only fun and educational for students, but they highlight the partnership between Port Blakely and local school districts in Oregon, Washington, and other areas where the company is located.

Here is a collection of photos from they May 29 outing enjoyed by Ms. Radke’s fifth grade class.
