Health Screenings

Early identification and prevention of health issues is one of the biggest factors in overall health and health maintenance.

CARDIAC SCREENINGS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

"It takes a community – parents, teachers, medical professionals and you – to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in young people. Increased access to automated external defibrillators, education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and youth cardiac screenings will save lives." - Providence Heart and Vascular Institute.

FREE Play Smart –Youth Heart Screenings for Youth Aged 12-18

Providence Heart Institute (PHI) is pleased to offerPlay Smart –Youth Heart Screenings Program, a free youth heart screenings program that has been extremely successful in screening over 18,346 youth and identifying 1,142 students or 7% (to date) for further follow-up and treatment. Young people with undiagnosed heart defects, especially athletes, are susceptible to sudden cardiac arrest. Often there are no advance signs or symptoms and most routine physical exams will not pick up the defects. An electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG) usually is necessary to uncover signs of heart irregularities, something normally not done in “well-child” checks or even some sports physicals. In an effort to protect the hearts of area middle and high school students, Play Smart offers free painless, noninvasive heart-health checks to youth aged 12-18.

We encourage all youth to take part in this including home schooled youth in our community!

VISION  & DENTAL SCREENINGS
Catching and treating vision problems is one of the best ways to prepare children for visual tasks in school.  Vision impairments are a common cause of delayed learning and are often easily treatable.

Overall physical health including  oral health are  very important  factors in a child's ability to focus and learn.

Early intervention of both oral and vision issues improve and motivate student success.

Vision Screenings for  Molalla River School District Elementary and Middle Schools will take place at different time throughout the school year,  Check with your child's school for dates/times.

Dental screenings will be conducted at each elementary school with oral health education.   Sealants will be provided at select schools based on free and reduced lunch rates.   Dental Van Services for uninsured and under insured students will be available for students K-12 throughout the academic year.

Dental and Vision Certificates for newly enrolled students:

Recent Oregon laws require parents to provide statements of vision screening and dental screening to the school of enrollment unless:
    * Seeking vision or dental access directly opposes religious beliefs.
    * Prior certification has been provided.
    * Vision or dental access is a burden as defined by the state board of education.
These documents should be completed for all incoming Kindergartners and newly enrolled students.
